Striking early map of Japan, with cartouche and compass rose by Jodocus Hondius, 1607. One of the earliest printed maps to focus on Japan.
Jodocus Hondius was a prominent globe maker and map engraver who established his business in Amsterdam in 1593. He created a map of Japan, titled "Iaponia," in 1606. This map, along with maps of China and Korea, was included in the Atlas Gerardi Mercatoris, a famous atlas published by Hondius.
