Set of 4 original copper engraving botanicals by William Curtis. Unframed. Dimensions: 6" x 9.5" each print,/ 20" x 26" set of 4. Excellent condition.
Features (from left to right): Shoebutton Ardisia, Tufted Evening Primrose, Prairie Coneflower / Mexican Hat, Albuca and Shoebutton Ardisia.
Curtis began publishing the *Botanical Magazine: Plants of the Royal Gardens* at Lovell Reeve in London in 1856. He started creating botanical illustrations in 1787 and continued this work almost without interruption for 160 years. The plates are renowned for their fine detail and delicate hand coloring, reflecting a time when detailed botanical illustrations were often the only way to record and understand the vast diversity of plant life.
