Vintage maritime watercolor and gouache on paper clipper ship at sea by artist Saint Clair Augustin Mulholland. Ornate gold frame.
Born in Philadelphia in 1839, Mulholland joined the Pennsylvania Militia and was commissioned as Lieutenant Colonel of the 116th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. In the 1880s, Mulholland traveled to London and Paris to study and paint, focusing on stunning watercolor marine scenes, including the remarkable work on display here.
Condition: The artwork is in excellent condition and has been preserved under glass. The frame is missing two ornamental pieces—one at the bottom and one on the far right. These defects are not very noticeable when the piece is hanging on the wall, but can be seen upon closer inspection when it's off the wall. Please refer to the photos for details.
