Set of 2 Original Renaissance Illuminated Decorative Prints from L'Ornement Polychrome (Polychromatic Ornament), by Albert Charles Auguste Racinet, published circa 1870. Unframed. Dimensions: 10.5 x 14.75" each print, 22" x 14.75" pair.
Auguste Racinet (as a French artist, designer, lithographer, director of publishing and art historian. His two major works are L'Ornement Polychrome and Le costume historique. He received the Legion of Honour in 1878. Didot is the name of a family of French printers, punch-cutters and publishers. Through its achievements and advancements in printing, publishing and typography, the family has lent its name to typographic measurements developed by François-Ambroise Didot and the Didot typeface developed by Firmin Didot.
Each print is titled Renaissance and showcases finely detailed ornamentation featuring elaborate illuminated manuscript borders, classical figures, floral motifs, and religious iconography. Produced using chromolithography—a sought-after printing process known for its depth of color and painterly quality—these works offer both visual impact and collectible appeal.
