Set of two original copper engraving celestial prints by Elijah Hinsdale Burritt from Burritt's Atlas, 1835, designed to illustrate the geography of the heavens. Each feature vibrant original hand-coloring and measure 20.25 x 21” each. Displayed in a custom frame and UV resistant glass.
Elijah Hinsdale Burritt was a teacher, newspaper editor, and surveyor from Connecticut. He aimed to create a guide that would help students and amateur astronomers locate stars. Eventually, he published the first edition of a star atlas and an accompanying textbook called "Geography of the Heavens." The atlas and books became extremely popular with both schools and the general public, remaining so for the next 40 years.
