This beautiful print is from Johann
Weinmann's Phytanthoza Iconographia published from 1737 to
1745. The print is from a large paper copy with extra wide margins.
The work contained over 1,000 hand-colored engravings in eight
folio volumes. It was the first published work to include work by
the greatest botanical artist of the 18th century - Georg Dionysus
Ehret. The engravings used are mostly taken from Ehret
and Asamin's drawings.
Phytanthoza Iconographia provided one of
the most comprehensive botanical references of the 18th century.
Many plates in the work were mezzotints printed in color and
finished by hand. Weinmann financed the work and many of the images
were after his personal collection.
